The Strand House, Manhattan Beach, California
Mom and I went to Mom’s friend’s house in LA. Their names were Tallu, Hudson, Dan and Melissa. We went to their house for New Year’s Eve and spent the night. On New Year’s Eve we stayed up till midnight. On New Year’s Day we went to  Manhattan Beach to The Strand House for pizza. Mom was there too but she’s not in the picture because she took the picture. The pizza was pretty good. Not as good as New York Pizza but still good. We also had coffee cake. That was great because it was free and it was warm and it was moist. And. the view of Manhattan Beach at the restaurant was really good. The windows were big so we could see the beach. It made me feel relaxed. After brunch we went to the beach. It had nice sand (better than the Coney Island beach which isn’t very clean.) It was fun visiting them because I felt comfortable at their house.

Chocolate Chair, Koreatown, Los Angeles
We went to a dessert restaurant after having Korean BBQ.  They had ice cream, shaved ice and macaroons. Half the restaurant was a make-up store and the other half was Chocolate Chair! I had vanilla banana ice cream that was great. Mom had a shaved ice that had mochi, berries, red beans, watermelon and some other stuff too.  It felt like snow in my mouth.  It was great.

Park’s Barbecue, Koreatown, Los Angeles
Me and mom went to LA to meet my little cousin, Izzy. Dad couldn’t come, he had to work because he has a new job. We went to Park’s BBQ restaurant after we went to the Santa Monica Pier. My Aunt Janny and Uncle Eric took us to there. There’s a nice amusement park at the pier. They have some good rides like a bungy jump and a wave jumper.
At the restaurant they had really good Kalbi (that’s a Korean meat).  It had a special sauce that made it delicious. I also had Chap Chae which is clear noodles like spaghetti but has a special flavor and has vegetables.    Something that made this Korean restaurant cool is that the waiter cooked our barbecue right on the table. Most Korean restaurants have that barbecue. I love that and it’s cool so I can see how they cook it. Also they cut up the meat with scissors not knives…that’s really cool.
Uncle Eric is my mother’s brother. He makes TV shows and that’s a pretty good job. Aunt Janny is going to have another baby. Izzy is two years old and really funny.  They were really nice to us and really generous to us on our trip.

Osteria al Doge, Midtown, Manhattan

We went with my substitute babysitter Aly (my real babysitter was in Ohio).  When Aly isn’t my babysitter she’s also my cousin!  We went there for a Christmas dinner after we went to Rockefeller Center to see the tree and we go to Godiva for chocolates.

At dinner I had pasta fagioli and calamari to start and for a pasta had gnocchi with a veal ragu (they didn’t have bolognese which I wanted).  The pasta fagioli was ok but not as good as the one from Dean’s Pizza which I love.  I ate lots of the calamari.  My gnocchi was good too but I only had a few bites.  I was kind of full and I wasn’t crazy about it.  We brought it home with us.  For dessert I had a really good raspberry and mango sorbet.

I’m glad we went there because its very Christmassy during the holidays and our family tradition is to go to a restaurant after going to see the tree.

Vynl,  Hells Kitchen, Manhattan
We had brunch with Anjali again.  This time not with Shomo though.  Anjali is having twins pretty soon so its going to be really loud at her house.  It’s going to be a crazy house.
We went to Vynl restaurant.  It’s a good, organized restaurant with nice design. It has lots of records on the wall when you walk in.  Records are like CDs but from like a hundred years ago.
I ordered the biscuits and gravy because it sounded good. But I didn’t like the gravy very much.  I don’t know why.  Also, I was really tired because I had just come from my Little League baseball and I had stayed up really late the night before. We went to the Great Jack O Lantern Blaze the night before and the night before that I went to a slumber party and stayed up until 12:30!  I did ok at Little League though…I had a home run. But I was tired all weekend.
My favorite part of brunch was the pineapple juice. I really liked it. Dad had Huevos Antonio which is like mexican eggs. He liked it.

St. James Gate, Upper West Side, Manhattan
We went to St. James Gate because we were having brunch with our friends - the Moog Helluy’s. First we were going to go to Ditch Plains but we didn’t have a reservation because someone in our family forgot and it was really crowded. So we walked over to St. James Gate. My friend Charlotte and I had chicken fingers. It took a really long time to get our food because it was busy there too. I also had pineapple juice. That juice was awesome. The chicken was pretty good - i got four but the fourth was tiny so it really was three.  It wasn’t as good as Ditch Plains’ chicken fingers or Chirping Chicken’s but they were still good.  Dad had an Irish breakfast and Mom had bacon, egg and cheese sandwich.  They liked theirs too.

Hale and Hearty, Upper West Side, Manhattan
I went to Hale and Hearty after school one day with my babysitter Chantal. We went because it was a cold day and we wanted warm soup. That day I got chicken and rice and Chantel got pea soup. My soup was great. Chantel’s was kind of OK. I don’t like pea soup so much but she likes it.
You can also get a side of a sandwich there or crackers if you want.  I got crackers. I like it there because their soup is so good because it’s their specialty. I think they have like 22 soups every day.
Maybe their soups are better than my dad’s, maybe not.

Daisy May’s BBQ, Midtown West, Manhattan
We went to Daisy May’s because it was close to the garage that is fixing our car and it’s one of dad’s favorite restaurants.  I like how it looks there because the fish and the horseshoes that are on the wall are fun.
We got our food to go so we could have a picnic near the Intrepid and the Hudson.  We got pulled pork, ribs, mac&cheese, warm peaches, sweet potatoes and creamed corn.  I really like the mac&cheese, the peaches and the pulled pork. The sweet potatoes and the corn were ok and the ribs were just right - not too dry,
We had some sweet tea too. I really like it and I like that it comes in a jar because it made me feel like I was out west. The tea was really, really sweet and had fresh mint in it.  I tike this restaurant almost as much as I like Blue Smoke and it’s as good Dinosaur BBQ too. So this is one of my favorite places for BBQ.

Mermaid Inn, Upper West Side, Manhattan
We went to brunch at The Mermaid Inn with Mom and Dad’s friends Anjali and Shomo. Me and Anjali both wanted to go there. I wanted to go because I like it there and I like their brunch. Anjali was nice and she has dark eyes like mom and hair like me. I didn’t talk to Shomo too much.  I had pancakes. They were pretty good.  Dad had lobster with eggs.  He and Shomo had Bloody Mary drinks that were sooo spicy.  Mom had steak and eggs.  She’s been having that a lot and dad has been having Bloody Mary’s a lot at brunch.

The County Line, Austin, Texas
Dad got this shirt in Austin, Texas where he had some really good barbecue.  It says, “Barbecue makes everybody somebody.”  That’s kind of a joke but also kind of true.

Randazzo’s Clam Bar, Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn

I went to Randazzo’s on Saturday because Dad really wanted to.  It’s in Brooklyn by the sea. They had lots of restaurants out there and there was a pretty nice bridge over the water too. Near the bridge there were guys fishing with nets.

The restaurant had a lot seafood. They have clams, calamari, lobsters, shrimp and other fish. It wasn’t an everyday place, but not just occasional either. There were a lot of people and not a lot of tables. We waited a little while for a table. We ended up sitting close to the kitchen and the bathroom.  (The bathroom was very clean.)

The food was really good. For starters, we had fried zucchini and calamari. I never had fried zucchini before. It was good. I had pasta for my meal because I was feeling a little picky and also it was an Italian restaurant.  Everyone had pasta in our family.  I had marinara sauce, mom had clam sauce and dad had marechiara sauce. Dad’s sauce was really, really good. It had clams, shrimp, calamari and some other fish too.

I think going once was enough for me for now but its a really good restaurant.

Markey’s Lobster Pool, Seabrook, NH
We go to Markey’s in NH every summer. It’s a tradition for us. This year we had lobster, steamers and corn on the cob. First we had a big pile of steamers. This time I learned I liked the chewy part and the belly part. This time I also learned how to pull the skin piece off the clam all by myself. Then we had lobsters.  I had my own lobster.  I like the claws the best. I also ate the green stuff in the body. It was good too.  (It’s actually lobster guts! Mommy doesn’t like it.) I also learned how to put a stick in the head part and make a lobster puppet. I pretended to bite mom. The corn from NH isn’t ready yet so I think this corn was from Florida so it wasn’t that good yet. Another reason I like Markey’s is we can eat outdoors. It was a really hot night and we were eating next to the water on the big marsh in Seabrook.

The Red Hook Lobster Pound, Red Hook, Brooklyn
Today we went to the lobster pound because we had never been and our friends Andrew and Caitlin who live in Brooklyn hadn’t been there either. The restaurant has two rooms, one where you order (that has tanks of cool aquatic animals called lobsters!) and another room with picnic tables. I like it like that. So there’s no lines near where you are eating. Andrew and Caitlin have twins Declan and Taylor. They had hot dogs and I had a lobster roll that was delicious. I had a Connecticut-style lobster roll that has no mayonnaise because I don’t like it. The roll was good and it was a good amount of lobster. Mom and Dad had regular lobster rolls with a little bit of mayonnaise. I also had sweet potato fries and corn on the cob. I liked them but maybe not as much as Chirping Chicken’s fries. I had some root beer too, but I didn’t love it. I really like this restaurant.

Lafayette, Noho, Manhattan
We went to Lafayette for Father’s Day and we had never tried it and we heard it’s a really good place. The restaurant isn’t too fancy and it isn’t just occasional but its not the kind of place you go every day. We saw a famous movie actor (Philip Seymour Hoffman) and actress (Catherine Keener) and Mom said he is a great actor and can turn himself into any kind of person.
The restaurant was great. We went for brunch and the food was great.  First, they have the best bacon in the world. It was thick and chewy and had maple syrup on it. I had bagel and salmon.  I liked the salmon a lot but it wasn’t as good as Murray’s salmon - the shop near our house. Also, they have great breadbaskets - the croissant and the muffins are delicious.
